The Regional District of Mount Waddington is located at the north end of Vancouver Island with offices in Port McNeill. Traveling to the RDMW provides road access to the communities of Woss, Telegraph Cove, Port McNeill, Port Alice, Port Hardy, Coal Harbour, Holberge, Winter Harbour and the west coast. The communities of Sointula on Malcolm Island and Alert Bay on Cormorant Island are accessed via BC Ferries service from Port McNeill.
Travel to our area is via ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo or Victoria and then head north via Highway 1 (from Victoria to Nanaimo) and then via Highway 19 from Nanaimo to Port McNeill. RDMW also has a regular air service from Vancouver to Port Hardy.

RDMW has a robust public transit system, several private taxi services, and is served by Port Hardy Express Bus, an Island Link company, with regular service to Port McNeill, Campbell River and connections to Nanaimo and Victoria. Our Community buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts to enable passengers using mobility equipment to easily access the transit service. In addition, each bus is fitted with a bike rack to assist in longer commutes.

Fares may be paid with cash (exact change only as drivers DO NOT carry cash), transit tickets or bus passes. Please note that Bus Passes and Bus Tickets from transit systems outside Mount Waddington are not accepted, please ensure you have the appropriate cash fare ready. Exceptions to this are annual BC Bus Passes and valid CNIB passes. Please see below for a list of Ticket Outlets.

Bus tickets have no expiry date and are a very economical travel option (especially for young people!) to access medical services and employment, educational and recreational opportunities.
Monthly bus passes are an easy, economical choice for frequent or commuter riders on Mount Waddington Transit.
For local and limited service routes (Port Hardy/Fort Rupert/Coal Harbour and Port McNeill/Hyde Creek). If travelling to and from your destination at least nine (9) days each month for local routes (1 zone) or at least eight (8) days each month for 2 zone areas the Monthly Pass is your most economical option.

This pass is for use in all Mount Waddington Transit zones. If travelling to and from your destination at least twelve (12) days per month, the monthly Multipass is a simple, economical option.
